New Car Alert: 2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe

Niceeeeee.

Tuner specialist Alpina premieres its latest BMW creation with the B6 xDrive Gran Coupe. Rivaling the M6 Gran Coupe, the B6 performs with 20 fewer horses, but delivers 540 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas its counterpart channels 500 lb-ft to just its rear wheels with a seven-speed dual-clutch. Thanks to this upgrade, Alpina’s version zips to 60 mph in a scant 3.7 seconds and tops out at 198 mph – .4 seconds faster and 50 mph more than the M6. The Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe will go on sale shortly after its official unveiling at the New York Auto Show with a price tag just shy of $120,000 USD.

New Car Alert: BMW Launches New X3

The refreshed compact sports SUV integrates styling cues from the latest 3 Series sedan as well as a number of quality and fuel-efficiency upgrades. BMW likes to think that it created the concept of the small-scale sporty off-roader or Sports Activity Vehicle and that the original X3, launched way back in 2003, was the nucleus of what has become a rapidly growing market. That might well be true. Before the introduction of BMW’s ‘X’ range of cars, off-roaders were designed to be good off-road and bearable on the road.

After they arrived, a whole host of vehicles were launched by everyone from Audi to Nissan that offered a high driving position and permanent four wheel drive, but were designed for city centers and highways rather than rocky mountains and country lanes. Still, despite their lack of real off-road performance, there seems to be no shortage of demand for the cars and it is estimated that roughly 1 million X3s have been sold globally over the past decade.

In order to retain these levels of popularity as consumers become more worried about sustainability and the environment, the biggest change to the new X3 is what’s powering the wheels — the company’s latest generation turbodiesel engines, the most notable of which is the 2.0-liter unit.
It uses TwinPower technology to ensure acceleration at all points across the rev band and in all gears, delivers 187bhp, and a fuel economy of 52.3mpg (5.4l/100km) on the combined cycle.

These figures can be improved further thanks to the EfficientDynamics package that includes an auto stop/start function and a brake energy regeneration system plus lower resistance tires.Inside, cabin materials are subtly upgraded and BMW’s ConnectedDrive driver assistance and infotainment system is available as a cost option. Announced Thursday, the X3 will be making its first real-world appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

New Car Alert: BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (Video/Pics)

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé is for drivers hankering for something that has space and doors for all the family but still has the good looks of a coupé.Normally, a BMW customer has two choices when it comes to choosing his or her next mid-sized car from the German company.

A sleek, focused two-door which is intoxicating to drive but, thanks to a heavily sloping roof, a bit cramped in the back. Or an equally sporty four-door sedan that sacrifices a little in terms of rakish good looks in order to accommodate rear passenger doors and more rear-seat headroom.
BMW clearly worries that this is a difficult decision to make and one that might be driving its customers into the welcoming arms of Audi and Mercedes as, unlike its closest direct competitors, it currently doesn’t have a car that offers the best elements of a coupe and a sedan. That is until now.

And of course, because BMW has waited until Mercedes and Audi have already launched their offerings in this space (the 4-door A5 and CLArespectively), it can make sure that the 4 Series is ‘best in class’ in terms of things like trunk space and headroom.
Under the hood, the car will be powered at launch with a choice of five engines, four of which will be petrol powerplants and one will be of the turbodiesel variety. The most potent will be the 306hp, 3-liter, in-line 6-cylinder unit, but there will also be a choice of less potent four-cylinder engines too. In terms of internal specifications, that’s down to the individual customer.
There will be three levels of standard trim and features, plus an options list that is huge (as with all BMWs); plus the BMW Individual Program will allow owners to create something even more exclusive.

New Car Alert: 2014 BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo

Coming soon from Alpina is its powerful, customized take on the 2014 BMW 3 Series: the D3 Bi-Turbo. Unveiled just last month at Frankfurt’s IAA, the D3 Bi-Turbo incorporates upgrades like a bigger intercooler, optimized air intake and a stainless steel-mounted sports exhaust system and exhaust manifold. Couple these with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and a six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine and the D3 Bi-Turbo boasts 350 bhp, 516 lb-ft of torque, a top speed of 172 mph and acceleration from 0 mph to 62 mph in about 4.6 seconds. The car even puts out minimal CO2 emissions and boasts a fuel economy of more than 44 mpg. Additional standard features include an Adaptive M Sport Suspension, bi-xenon headlights and 19″ alloy wheels while the interior has been given an overhaul with Alpina Blue instruments, a hand-stitched Lavalina leather-wrapped steering wheel, luxuriously carpeted mats and heated sport seats. Alpina’s D3 Bi-Turbo can soon be had in either sedan or estate versions for £46,950 GBP (approximately $74,980 USD) and £49,950 GBP (approximately $79,770 USD), respectively.

New Car Alert:The New BMW i8. (Video)

With its fascinating holistic concept, the BMW i8 brings the vision of a modern and sustainable sports car to life. The highly-emotional design immediately makes it clear what qualities the BMW i8 has to offer. Dynamic proportions show off its acceleration potential even when it’s standing still; and yet it doesn’t rely on being a pure-blooded sports car. Its aesthetics always follow a functional goal: for example, more aerodynamics for maximum efficiency and absolute performance.

New Car Alert: BMW Unveils the M4 Concept

After revealing its 4-Series Coupe late last year before outfitting it with M performance parts as a teaser of sorts, BMW took to Pebble Beach to unveil the highly-anticipated M4 Concept. Meant as a replacement for the M3 Coupe, the M4 represents an evolution in M series design as it modifies a number of aesthetic cues sported by its precursor while incorporating some of the series’ most beloved accents: the hood’s power dome is now smaller and the carbon fiber roof now sports the BMW M tri-color while the likes of the 20″ alloy wheels, carbon-ceramic breaks, exhaust, and rear diffuser have all been lifted from previous vehicles. Although the car is certainly something to look at, BMW has yet to reveal what sits under the hood. Thus, both the engine and transmission setups remain completely unknown. Enjoy this first look at the exterior of the vehicle and stay tuned for a look at what powers the M4 under the hood.
