ARTkids Kickstarter

ARTkids is a program created by Demeanor's own Julian Starks dedicated to educating youth on the importance of self expression and creativity through teaching and cultivating the fundamental skills of art.

In order to launch this program in September however ARTkids needs to meet its goal of $3,000 through Kickstarter. You can help by contributing monetarily and spreading the word on the campaign.

Big K.R.I.T. King Remembered In Time

I'm not too into rap these days but I finally had a chance to listen to Big K.R.I.T.'s new mixtape 'King Remembered In Time' which he released earlier this week and it is an amazing piece of art!  All 17 tracks are produced by K.R.I.T. himself for the exception of the super dope 'Life's A Gamble' which samples Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man produced my 9th Wonder!  This mixtape effortlessly shifts from heavy southern bass driven beats and flows to soulful, insightful beats and lyrics!  Do yourself a favor and give this a listen, you can stream it here.

I'm one of those people that are always busy but can't ever really tell you what I'm busy on, however between handling designs and inventory for Demeanor and knocking-out freelance work through blog.pillcollection.com, I managed to find some spare time to create one of my favorite designs to-date!

Recently I've fallen in love with bright pop-colors against grey backgrounds, and she is a perfect example of where my artwork is headed these days!

I think this design would make a great print as well as a nice shirt design, let me know what you think, also I haven't been able to come up with a name for her yet, so if you have any ideas please drop them in the comments section?

New Limited Edition Prints

Apologies for the lack of updates over the past week or so but i've been in a serious creative zone trying to knock out a lot of work, both Demeanor and non-Demeanor. New Demeanor thermals and beanies are on the way, as well as a few collaborations that we've been working on but today i've released a few original prints. I just finished this Love Is... print this morning. This design is all about love, the good and the bad parts, and how we try to protect ourselves from getting hurt by it.

Dorothy Dandridge was a young actress/singer, she was every bit as beautiful and talented as her contemporaries Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, however she never received the same opportunities or recognition as them because of her skin color.

Stealing Fame is actually the first design that I ever created with the intention to print. History has proven that famous and successful people know the importance of waiting for the right moment and then taking whatever risk necessary to acquire what they want. This print embodies the spirit of being bold and unafraid to going after whatever it is that you want!

NICOLAS CAGE SUPERMAN COMIC SETS AUCTION RECORD

The rich get richer. From 15 cents to 2.16 million

Nicolas Cage’s rare copy of Action Comics No. 1 went under the hammer yesterday for USD 2.16 million, setting record for a single comic book sold. Approximately 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 remain in existence, though few are kept in such pristine condition as Cage’s.

Assigned a grade of 9.0 by Certified Guaranty Company, Cage’s Action Comics No. 1 was stolen from his house in 2000 and found in a San Fernando Valley storage locker in April. The American actor, who named his son Kal-El after Superman’s Kryptonian birth name, dubbed the recovery "divine provenance".

The original copy, which came out in the 1938, cost about USD 15 cents.

'Thinking of Forever' Series

On Saturday November 26th, my Grandmother, the woman who raised me and motivated me to strive for greatness, passed away on her 75th birthday (due to heart related complications). Since her passing I’ve been working on a series of prints that I will be releasing next week titled ‘Thinking of Forever’. These prints will not only be in loving memory of my Grandmother but also dedicated to all of the hearts that are longing for loved ones who are no longer with us. More details about this very personal project will be released throughout next week.

PIC:The World's Largest Pumpkin, Carved into Zombies

I know Halloween is over, but it's still Fall and I still like pumpkin pie, so sue me. But this is the dopest carving I've ever seen of a pumpkin. The New York Botanical Garden brought on master food sculptor Ray Villafane to carve zombies out of two giant pumpkins, one of which was the world’s heaviest pumpkin weighing 1,818.5 pounds.The record breaking pumpkin features three creepy monsters bursting out of the huge orange shell, covered in pumpkin guts as they claw their way to freedom. He even has bits of the pumpkin suspended in air by long tooth picks as if they are just climbing their way out of it.

Curiouser and Curiouser

For anyone who doubts that video games can be art, look no further than American McGee. The video game auteur started his career working on iconic titles such as Doom, its sequel, and in 1998 became the Creative Director of Electronic Arts. Eventually his love of the gaming medium would lead him to create his own game, American McGee’s Alice, a digital undertaking that takes place after Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass sagas. McGee’s title would go on to sell over 1.5 million copies.

Typoe - Confetti Death

Art is sometimes hard to grasp. For instance - I never understood how artist close their eyes, scribble on a canvas for a few hours, then sell the final product for thousands of dollars.

But that's not the case here, as Miami-based creator Typoe has crafted an enticing piece of modern art. In this particular piece, Typoe uses shards of spray paint caps which act as vomit, coming forth from the skull that is specially “mounted” due to the white backdrop.

All in all, I must say that the creativity is amazing.

4ALL Art + Fashion Show

As we mentioned earlier the 4ALL Art + Fashion Show takes place this Saturday at Cafe Asia. Demeanor as well as a few other brands will be featured in the show. This week we've been in super grind mode preparing for the show as well as our 'Friday Night Lights' party on the 29th.

Our homegirls Mila and Fire, you might remember them from the cameo they made in our S/S video will be featuring some of their outstanding vintage pieces in the show!

Toine who i've known for years will be featuring her amazing handmade swimsuits in the show.

The place was packed with models getting fitted and trying different looks!

Compared to what the women had to go through for fitting, i'd say Demeanor had it relatively easy, we were just throwing shirts back and forth the whole time until we got the right look for our guy and girl models.

Laurence was trying to make sense of my scribbles, i'm pretty sure he erased any and everything I wrote in his notebook as soon as I walked away.

Our looks finally came together toward the end. We're really excited about this show, so make sure you come out this Saturday to support and have a great time.
