Top 10 Hotel Openings of 2011
This year has seen a proliferation of funky new properties around the world, a gloomy economic outlook seemingly unable to hold back our desire for edgy style or luxury wherever we go. Here, a look at some of our favorite openings throughout the year.W Hotels’ new flagship was one of the most talked-about debuts of the year, in the heart of London amid the cinemas of Leicester Square. The achingly cool 192-room property set a new standard for London’s design hotels, and came complete with a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant.
The world’s tallest hotel, Ritz-Carlton proved earlier this year that despite the rise of Shanghai, Hong Kong hasn’t given up the ghost yet. This stunning property towers over the city, with an infinity pool overlooking the harbor and spa treatment rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.
With 169 rooms described as “unmistakably Missoni,” this hotel was a reminder that we can’t get enough of fashion hotels. Impressively, every room in the property offers views across the Gulf, as does the 18th floor Luna restaurant.
Mandarin Oriental, ParisJune
Paris’s luxury hotels have always been desirable, and new entrants Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-La upped the competition a notch, arriving within half a year of each other. The 138-room Mandarin Oriental boasts one of the French capital’s most prestigious addresses, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, as well as a Thierry Marx restaurant.
With trademark ebullience, the Donald sailed into South America in July with its tallest building, the 284-meter Trump Ocean Club. It’s home to 47 suites, 37 elevators, a spa, marina, casino and an island with a private beach.
The New Hotel, Athens, Greece July
Brazilian design duo Humberto and Fernando Campana turned to Greek themes for this stylish art hotel, some light relief in what was otherwise a difficult year for Greece. Fairytale characters adorn the walls and furniture has been supplied by the brothers themselves.
Public Chicago September
Legendary hotelier Ian Schrager turned his hand to a different style of property earlier this year, opening a budget hotel in the Windy City. Public combined sharp design with low cost and featured a Jean-Georges Vongerichten food concept.
Disney Aulani, Hawaii September
Disney’s first non-themepark hotel could mark the start of a wider expansion into the hospitality industry for the entertainment giant. Designed as an ‘alternative family vacation experience’, Aulani retains some of the family friendliness but also focuses on more adult features, such as a spa and decor which draws inspiration from its Hawaiian surroundings.
Andaz Shanghai, China October
The entry of Andaz into Asia marked a milestone for the brand, which has already won over travelers with its contemporary luxury style in Europe and Asia. The 307 high-tech Andaz Shanghai towers 28 stories over the city, a modern landmark in the traditional Xintiandi neighborhood.

Live from Studio 85
Studio 85 is Washington D.C.’s newest destination for all things exclusive and fashionable. Owned and operated by three sisters Tammi, Tamika, and Tiffany this independent boutique popped up only a few months ago and have made an immediate impact on the scene.
Their brick and mortar store is a well balanced mix of urban and chic. In one visit you can pick up anything from t-shirts and books to vintage dresses and accessories.
The red brick walls are adorned with the original work by independent artist and photographers here in the DMV, most of the art is for sale.
Studio 85 houses vintage jewelry and accessories while showcasing designers from DC to California.
You can also find very cool lifestlye products littered throughout the store, everything from paper weights and purses to high quality leather passport holders. I love their approach, it makes every visit to their store seem like an adventure where you can find something cool and new.
Demeanor has always taken pride in being an independent brand and was built in the spirit of ‘boutique’. We’ve always focused on creating exclusive products in limited quantities however in high quality, much like Studio 85, which is why our brand will now be sold there.
We're very appreciative of the immediate response that we've recived from Studio 85's customers about our brand. There has been a lot of feedback and requests for certain items in certain colors and sizes and we definately aim to please so be on the lookout for a few older brand favorites in new colorways. by @DM_Ju

Burton x Red Wing Snowboard Boots
I've been off my snowboard steeze alot lately, I'm actually going to end up buying a board pretty soon so i'm definately interested in this collaboration. No one makes boards better than Burton or boots better than Red Wing so this collab is a match made in heaven as they take the classic Red Wing work boot and outfit it for all of the snowboard necessities.Thursday, January 27, 2011

Demeanor 2011

BTW, the image above is the design of one of the buttons that we're undecided about putting out. While half of the team thinks its dope, the other half thinks it may be a bit inappropriate. So what's your opinion should we have this design made into a button and some stickers or no, leave a comment and let us know what you think?

Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg & Akon “Kush”
So I guess Detox really is on the way. This is a pretty good video, its in the same vein as T-Pain's Rap Song except that people are actually moving in this one, but its clearly following the trend that Kanye created with Power. Either way it's always good to see Snoop and the good Doc back at it!

Thanks to GUCCI, you can finally view 3D movies in style and comfort. To target the high-end consumer electronics shopper, GUCCI will be coming out with 3D eyeglasses just in time for the holiday season. GUCCI's 3D glasses will be sold in GUCCI boutiques throughout the U.S. next month for $225. Just The Right Amount of Wrong
Last night as I watched the the season finale of "Mad Men" (what was Don Draper thinking?), this new ad from The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas caught my attention and captured my imagination. I've watched this commercial more than a hand full of times now and I still have no clue what's going on here but it looks like somewhere I want to be.
What started off as a sexy party scene turned into complete randomness, including a gluttonous feast, a guy dancing with someone's grandma (hilarious though it was), kittens, puppies, and bunnies invading the party, a pant-less bellhop delivering luggage, a waiter walking into a full pool to deliver a drink to a woman on a float, oh and lets not forget the deer!
I think it's time to start planning my next trip to Vegas and please believe i'll be stationed at The Cosmopolitan.

Maybach Launches Eyewear Collection
The high-end car brand, Maybach, has taken luxury a step beyond by introducing their new luxurious eyewear collection. The Maybach sunglasses are each hand crafted, with high quality materials such as wood, leather, natural horn, titanium and 18-carat white, yellow and rose gold. The actual design of the collection is inspired by various elements that define the Maybach car models, including the brand’s logo. It might just be me, but after I spend over $400,000 on a car I would hope they throw in the glasses for free lol.Click here to view more photos of the collection.

Gucci Special Edition Heritage Aviators
For some reason I never was the type to rock shades. Honestly, I don't even like wearing the glasses at a 3-D movie. But the Italian luxury brand, Gucci, has come out with a new collection of retro style aviator sunglasses, that are a 'must have' for the summer. The Heritage Aviator Sunglasses collection gives off a smooth, old-school look of glamour from the '60s and '70s. And as I look at the collection, it definitely reminds me of Robert De Niro in the movie Casino.
